RBCPL24: Will Amazon Warriors do the double? Wired868 previews T20 tourney

The long-awaited return of the CPL

After a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) is finally set to return in 2022. The tournament will be held from August 31st to September 30th and will feature eight teams from across the Caribbean.

The Guyana Amazon Warriors are the defending champions, having won the title in 2019. They will be looking to make it two titles in a row, but they will face stiff competition from the other teams in the tournament.

The contenders

The Trinbago Knight Riders are always one of the favorites to win the CPL. They have won the title three times, including in 2017 and 2018. They have a strong team this year, led by Kieron Pollard, Sunil Narine, and Andre Russell.

The Barbados Royals are another team to watch. They have won the CPL once, in 2014. They have a good all-around team, led by Jason Holder, Kyle Mayers, and Rahkeem Cornwall.

The St Lucia Kings are a dark horse team this year. They have never won the CPL, but they have a good team, led by Roston Chase, Obed McCoy, and Kesrick Williams.

The format

The CPL will be played in a round-robin format, with each team playing each other twice. The top four teams will advance to the playoffs.

The playoffs will be played in a single-elimination format. The winner of the tournament will qualify for the Champions League Twenty20.
